  • Society is well linked to support local child care, disabled needs and provide help to neighbours, elderly people living alone
  • Home births are well supported by the mobile maternity unit which even carries a birthing waterbath
  • Wellbeing gardens are available for all residents in Totnes and South Brent and ten of the local parishes also have developed their own, which provide medical herbs and are linked with local GP practices and other health-care facilities. The workers & people involved in their gardens have become very knowledgeable about herbs.

  • Health care provision has become more balanced towards individual responsibility with health care providers supporting the public’s increased self-reliance and preventative care
  • Community Clinics are well attended and provide a cost-effective system for delivery of public health
  • The extensive budgets once allocated to tackling obesity and unhealthy lifestyles have diminished and the focus of investment is now on supporting access to services for rural communities
  • Health and safety regulations have long been readjusted to enable more common sense approach and allow calculated risk so that people can become more self-reliant.
