Transition in Action, Totnes 2030, an Energy Descent Action Plan

Vision 2030

By 2030, Totnes and District has evolved into a community that is underpinned by principles of sustainability and resilience in all aspects of life. These are deeply integrated in local society and underpin all educational institutions in the district. Teaching and learning embrace a wide liberal system whereby students of all ages learn through exploration and interest and share their learning as part of the broader teaching process. Learning about transition, and skills for power-down skills are available to all through a diversity of opportunities, alongside the other core curriculum subjects. Young people are keen to learn, understand and develop deeply rooted values about sustainability and social justice, eventually leaving formal learning highly motivated with a broad toolkit of creative thinking, knowledge, practical skills and enthusiasm for learning. Older people have many opportunities for learning and reskilling. Elders and good teachers enjoy a central place in a community, which respects and uses their knowledge and wisdom. All have opportunities to study further, train and retrain for interesting work and practical tasks and most people enjoy a good story.
