Transition in Action, Totnes 2030, an Energy Descent Action Plan

From Our Survey

Our survey revealed the following about current transport trends in Totnes and District. Of those surveyed, 85% identified themselves as regular car users. The average distance travelled per year (39% of respondents) was between 5000 and 10000 miles, although 23% of people travel less than 2,000 miles per year. The most common reason for car trips is work, then leisure, and finally taking children to school. Of those surveyed that used their car to get to work, 44% said their work would be impossible without a car. 20% however said that it would be either possible or straightforward, although very few had discussed the possibility with their employer. Finally, those respondents who currently have no car were asked how they found life with no car. 45% said they found it easy, and 34% said they found it difficult or impossible.
