Hi
I see that you have reduced nearly all the “estimated potential” figures (from Prof MacKay’s book) by a factor of 10, e.g. Para 3c offshore wind farms 48kWh per capita/day => T&D share of 41,808 MWh/y (= 4.8 kWh per capita/day).
Is this a deliberate safety factor? It certainly makes the numbers more politically feasible.
But for Solar Power from the Deserts you scale 125kWh percapita/day to 64780.7 MWh/y = 7.43 kWh percapita/day. This makes even more sense as Prof MacKay’s figure is not an “estimated potential” at all, it is what we would like to have. The most he suggests as feasible is 20kWh/d .
As you have noted we have reduced the estimated potential figures by a factor of 10 to provide a realistic margin for what is likely to be achievable.
