Transition in Action, Totnes 2030, an Energy Descent Action Plan

Step Two: Key Tools

The vision of 2030 presented as a postcard from the future has been widely used in this project. It features an artist’s impression of what two familiar scenes of Totnes might look like in 21 years’ time. A leaflet for general use was also developed to engage interest, general participation and solicit ideas. A 10 metre long ‘Transition Timeline’ was made for the project and taken to all events and talks. This was used to indicate the future we are looking at, and to enable people to contribute their ideas about future dates. A series of large board posters were created to cover the content of the introductory presentation, and allow people to browse during the workshop. All proved very popular.

In para 1 penultimate sentence you mention large board posters. I am working on something similar with Teign Estuary Transition Initiative and would like to know where I can view both design and content of said posters.
    Great if you can help
    Thanks in anticipation

The large posters are made of A1 size thick grey cardboard. They carried A2 and A3 enlarged prints mostly from a powerpoint presentation used at community workshops. There are about 20 of them. Essentially I used them set out as a row and gave the presentation as I walked past each. The idea being that attendees could still see the previous ‘slides’ during the presentation and review before and afterwards too. I can bring these to the TT Network conference in July or since we are almost neighbours you are welcome to come over to TTT to view and discuss.

The 10m long timeline sounds a fantastic way to help people to overcome their fears and anxieties and to see the transition as achievable and desirable.

Do you have any photos to provide? It is probably something every community would have to do for itself to have the full effect; however, a template to work from always helps.
